Rescue Me ID: 17-02-02-00137Sadie jay (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Needs to be Spayed, Needs Vaccinations, Abused/Neglected,
 Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

Sadie is the most beautiful, loyal andloving dog I have ever had. I've had her for a little under a year thinking that I could save her. Sadie jay is 4 years old, and for the first 4 years of her life she was locked away in a closet and neglected for the first 3. Due to this she is food and bone aggressive. When we got her she was wild on a leash. Wouldn't eat her food, and thought it was great to potty in the house. She has come a very long way. She still has accidents here and there if u leave her alone too long. She has separation anxiety so she needs ton of love and attention. She is very needy. She needs a big fenced in backyard. She is ... (Read More)quite large and solid 75 to 80 lbs of muscle. It takes me a 2 ton test tow cable to keep her in my yard and she can jump over a full couch without touching it. She is extremely protective over her loved ones. She loves kids but she jumps and thinks she's a lap dog.she's a lover not a fighter. I keep her away from most dogs. The only dog I've had her around is buster. A very dominant pit and they love eachother. Although while in walking her she seems to act aggressively towards other dogs. She is an attention shore and loves to be the center of attention AMD needs lots of cuddles. She is not the dog for everyone. She needs extra care and needs to go to a home where someone has experience with abused dogs who can train her better. I thought I could but I didn't know what I was stepping into. She is smart. I've been able to teach her the basics and more. She loves to give high 5s for treats as well as roll over. She is very Hugh strung and her growl is just as scary as her bark. But she is a total lover. I've watched her break up fights with ease. Never biting a soul in the process. Though she did rip a mans jacket for trying to steal from me.I am devastated that I have to do this. My health is in bad condition and i can no longer care for such an overwhelming animal. I pray that someone here has the heart and compassion for this truly wonderful and loving baby. I love her so much. But I think she has helped me more than I could ever repay her at this point and she deserves so much better than I can provide. (Less)

This beautiful neutered male dog with the intelligent eye and great focus is COLT. He is handsome, fit, gentle, and friendly. COLT will need a home where he can get exercise and attention. When he was outside to exercise and the volunteers were inside, he kept jumping up to look in the window at us! There is such a good heart in this muscular package. Only about 1-2 years old, COLT is more the strong, silent type at the shelter--not much barking, just interested in interacting with people. Our shelter is located in rural PA; closest city is Pittsburgh. We require a meet and greet with any other dog(s) in the home.

Rescue Me ID: 16-12-04-00443Max (male)

Boxer    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Needs to be Neutered, Needs Vaccinations

Max is our sweet, super goofy 18-month old boxer boy. He joined our family at just 3 months old; unfortunately, we're downsizing into an apartment that does not allow dogs of his size (he's about 65 lbs). We've tried other options, but decided it would be best to find a family that has more space and are actually allowed to have him in their home. Important things to know about Max: he has steroid responsive canine meningitis, which requires high dosages of steroids during flair ups (every 3-4 months for roughly 2 days, when treated right away). This can make him sluggish until the medicine kicks in, but then he's back to his normal, ... (Read More)playful self. Because of the high doses of steroids, our vet has asked us to pass on his vaccinations until at least spring 2017, so they can monitor (he goes to a neurologist at PennVet, which is amazing and affordable). Max is also cryptorchid, which means he has a testicle which has not descended. Because of this, he will eventually require an invasive surgery to be neutered, likely by the age of 5, but also has no sex drive nor awkward leg humping issues. Health notes aside, Max is probably the perfect dog, although we're biased. He's sweet, good with other dogs and loves kids, and highly motivated to please. He's young, and perhaps a little too friendly, but nothing a training course can't correct. He (Less)

Bella is a nearly 3 1/2 year old American Stafford Terrier / Boxer / Afghan Hound mix (we've had her DNA tested) who weighs around 75 pounds. We adopted her from a shelter when she was 4 months old. She has a redish/brown short hair with minimum shedding. She has been spayed, is up to date on all her shots, and has been micro-chipped. She has gone through obedience training with two private trainers in our home and is well trained on all basic commands and leash walking. She is crate trained and house trained and does very well for even long periods of time without any accidents. We have had no chewing problems and she demonstrates no ... (Read More)destructive behavior. She is invisible fence trained as well. She is a quiet dog that only barks on occasion or when strangers enter the house. She has a medium energy level and is as happy laying at your feet as she is going for a walk. When she is active she is very athletic and would probably be good at agility training. She is a very loyal dog who always enjoys being around her master. Unfortunately, we have to find a new home for her because she is very anxious, guarded, and growls around young children under 6. We have four children with one being four years old and have a neighborhood full of young kids. We have also experienced some guarding issues around food. Given that we have worked with her for over two years, with a variety of methods, without any improvement we have no choice but to give her up to a good home without small children. She would be a perfect dog for a single person, couple, or family with teenage kids. Please help us find an equally wonderful home for this wonderful dog. (Less)

 Fearful/Anxious

About Her: Molly is a sweet 10 or 11 year old boxer/pit mix who was rescued at age 2 by her first forever home. Her first two years are believed to be filled with abuse and she is thus startled by loud noises and suffers from separation anxiety if she is the only dog in the house. She a total sweetheart and everyone who has been with her has absolutely loved her. She is older and thus loves to just chill around the house and sleep on comfy places (couches, beds, pillows, etc). She also loves to be outdoors and will keep up with short jogs and short day/weekend hikes (Her trail name is Scooby Doo). At dog parks she keeps up with young pups ... (Read More)running around the park, you wouldn't believe she wasn't a young pup when you see how she runs! Her smile brightens a room and she never fails to make you feel loved by her whole heart. She would be a wonderful addition to any home! Interactions with other animals: Molly loves other dogs and wants to say hello to every dog she meets! She makes many dog friends and will always tug her leash, asking you to allow her to say hello. She is fine with cats and mostly ignores them or says a quick hello. Her Story: Her first forever home family was unfortunately kicked out of their house on short notice and was unable to keep her. I took on her care and found her a temporary home until I was able to take her in with me. The plan was to hold her indefinitely until her first family could afford to buy their own home where they could take Molly back. She was family to me and I was happy to have her in my life. Unfortunately, I ended up in a position where I was not in any permanent housing and could not find a place in time for us both that was realistic for me financially or location-wise. With a heavy heart I had to find her a home without me. I was able to find her a short-term foster home but she still needs a forever home and may be in need of a new foster in August if she is still not adopted. She is the sweetest and one of the most loving dogs I have ever met and deserves a great home. Animal ID: 6543820Cindy (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

'Pick me! Pick me!' Cindy is all eager smiles, tail wags and wiggly-jiggly dance moves when she sees folks coming her way along the kennel run. She tries so very hard to make sure you notice her - this super-friendly pup doesn't want to be lost in the crowd! And frankly, not only does this 6-year-old charmer NOT get lost in the crowd, she's sure to stand out! Sporting a lovely deep brindle jacket and a broad, warm smile, sweet Cindy is a bubbly, engaging lady ready to steal your heart. She's always eager to climb into your lap or show off her oh-so-pettable belly as she rolls with delight in the grass. Here's what her temporary foster ... (Read More)mom down south told us about her: 'Cindy is absolutely loving with every human she's met; she's fine with other dogs, too, although she's really much more interested in humans! She's a little TOO interested in cats, however, so a cat-free home would be best for Cindy.' Cindy's foster mom says, 'Cindy loves, loves, loves to be around people! She is a gentle, sweet girl who walks very nicely on the leash. Her idea of heaven would be a home where someone is around the house most of the day, as she's not fond of being crated or otherwise contained ... and she loves having 'people company' more than anything (although she'd be happy to have a canine playmate, too!). She's an eager-to-please girl who is great with kids, housetrained, laid-back and mellow.' Want to learn more? Please e-mail us at AlmostHome4Dogs@yahoo.com to find out if Cindy is the right canine for you! (Local adoptions preferred - Philadelphia and tri-state area [South Jersey and northern Delaware] only.) PLEASE READ BEFORE CONTACTING US! PIease Read Before Adopting a Boxer in Pennsylvania
Boxer Dogs can make good pets in Pennsylvania if they match your IifestyIe. Boxer dogs are energetic, playful and intelligent animals, they like to clown around a lot and will keep you laughing. Boxers learn new things quickly, and, at the same time, can be clever and stubborn. Boxer dogs bond well with a family, are very affectionate and get along well with children. Boxers need a lot of exercise, and will be well-behaved as long as they are taken on long walks every day. If kept confined without a lot of exercise, however, boxer dogs can become destructive. Boxers require lots of human companionship and should never be left alone for long periods of time.

lnteresting Boxer Trivia Low-Cost Pennsylvania Spay & Neuter Clinics
The name boxer originates from the fact that boxer dogs look like they are actually boxing when they play using their front paws. The boxer was originally bred from the English Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser. Boxers were first introduced at a dog show in Munich, Germany in 1895. Boxer dogs are the sixth most popular breed in the United States. Approximately 1 in 5 boxers are born white, and almost 20% of white boxers are deaf.
