Animal ID: 16Jefferson (male)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Cats
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Jefferson came in to us very thin, currently we are helping him gain some much needed weight. He is very sweet. He likes to be with people. He is friendly with other dogs. 44 lbs. 3 years old. If you have questions or would like to meet the dog featured on this page, please call (216) 664-3476 to speak to an adoption representative at CITY DOGS Cleveland. Or email citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us About Our Shelter... CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to ... (Read More)increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have been assessed. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic (Less)

Rescue Me ID: 16-07-22-00126Rosita (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: High Energy, Somewhat Dominant
Health: Spayed

Rosita is a six month old cutie-pie-mutt. She is a spunky and playful puppy with lots of personality and love to give. Ideally, Rosita would be an only pet, however she is currently living with a dog her size who doesn't mind her rough play - so dogs fitting that category would be fine. We would recommend no small dogs and no cats. Rosita is GREAT with human friends of all sizes, she is very loving. Rosita loves toys and chew bones. She is almost 100% potty trained, and she never chews on anything that isn't hers to chew! She is still a puppy but is smart and learning her manners well! Rescue Me ID: 16-07-17-00194Josie (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Male Dogs Only, Good with Kids and Adults
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Hello! My name is Josie. I'm around 3 years old and I weigh about 60 lbs. I was found as a stray in Wellsville and I was picked up by the pound. I spent some time here at the pound, then I was adopted. The family had kids and they totally loved me, and I loved them. They also had a rabbit and a cat, neither of which I had interest in becoming friends with. Needless to say, the other pets were in the household first, so I was returned to the pound. They said I was a wonderful girl the whole time the had me except the above mentioned issue. They said I was wonderful with the kids, great in the house and that I am housebroken... they were ... (Read More)really sad that they had to bring me back, but they couldn't risk me injuring (or worse) the rabbit and cat. I am a wonderful girl here at the pound too. I am clean in my kennel. I am very friendly and social with people who come in. I am good on a leash after the first couple of minutes. The list goes on and on. I get along well with MALE dogs around my own size. I don't really like female dogs or small dogs of either sex. I am VERY playful with large male dogs and the pound hasn'thad any issues with me with bigger sized males. I love going up to the play yard and running around with my 'boyfriends'. Prety much my only 'problem' here is that I have absolutely no trouble climbing a 6' fence and I can do it in a matter of seconds, so I have to be supervised at all times when I am outside playing. The pound suggests that even if my new family has a fence, I should still be supervised when I am outside to potty or that I should have strong tie out or be walked when I am out to potty. If you're looking for a nice dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. Our adoption fee is $120.00. The adoption fee must be paid in CASH. We are unable to accept personal checks or credit/debit cards for adoption fees. ALL dogs/puppies adopted from our shelter will receive their parvo distemper vaccine, bordetella vaccine, rabies vaccine (if aged at 12 weeks or older), be dewormed with a 3 day course of panacur dewormer, be microchipped, receive their current Ohio dog license and will be spayed or neutered. ALL DOGS/PUPPIES WILL BE SPAYED OR NEUTERED unless a health issue prohibits the surgery from being performed. Not all dogs posted for adoption are spayed/ neutered yet. If you're driving a long distance to adopt, please verify that the vetting process has been completed and dog you're interested in adopting is still available for adoption. The above mentioned vetting is all included in your adoption fee. The adoption fee and what is included in the adoption fee is NON-NEGOTIABLE. Adoptions MUST be done at the pound and in person as there is paperwork to fill out and an adoption contract that must be signed by the adopter. This means you must be willing to travel to our shelter to adopt. IF the dog you're interested in adopting has medical conditions or injuries which require medical treatment, we ask that you help with the medical bills so we can continue to help the dogs coming in who need additional vet care. We are a county run shelter, therefore we cannot control our intake or the health or behavior of the dogs that come in to our shelter. Although we try our hardest to place all of our adoptable dogs, there are certain circumstances in which any dog in our care could be euthanized at any time and without further notice (IE: sudden untreatable medical condition or injury, temperament or behavioral problems which may not be apparent when the dog first arrives, lack or space, etc.), therefore all dogs at our shelter should be considered urgent. The adoption of a more highly adoptable dog will mean more time for the less adoptable dog in the kennel next to him! Shelter hours are: Monday-Friday: 8 am- 4 pm Saturday: 9 am- 12 pm. The pound is CLOSED to the public on Sunday. There is nobody in the office on Saturday and Sunday, so therefore we are unable to answer or return phone calls over the weekend. Can't adopt a dog? We would love to have more volunteers who are able to spend time with our dogs! The dogs LOVE going for walks and the socialization and exercise helps make the dogs more adoptable.

Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment.     Need to rehome our 4 year old male boxer immediately. We moved from the country to the city and our boxer has not acclimated well. He has no room to run and barks at every thing and every one that goes by the house. We have been informed that we will have to move out of our home if we keep our Raylan. He is an incredible dog with family and those he knows, however, is very possessive and fearful of strangers.     Hi there. My name is Baca. I'm 5 years old and I weigh about 55 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound, along with my friend Magnus, because my owner moved and couldn't keep us any longer. I am a very sweet and loving dog. I get along well with other dogs and I love people. I am a really good boy. I like going for walks and spending time out in the play yard with my buddy Magnus.     Hello everyone! I'm Ollie and I am waiting to meet YOU! I'm about 6 years old, an easygoing mastiff mix who LOVES everyone, big and small. I'm not sure about cats, but I get along well with most dogs. I have a congenital leg defect which makes my back legs bend inwards, but I don't let that stop me AT ALL - even though I am a big boy I can move FAST when I want to. I ride great in the car and enjoy getting out and about, sniffing the grass and checking out my surroundings. But most of all I like to give kisses and get cuddles, the more the better. So, if you like big dogs with big hearts, maybe I could be the one for you. Watch me in action ... (Read More)and find out more about me from one of my favorite shelter volunteers on Youtube! (Less)

Storm 1-2 year old lab/boxer Mix Female Storm is a 2 year old spayed female lab mix who is looking for her forever home! As most of her puppyhood was a cycle of getting adopted and returned to the shelter for being 'too hyper', Storm needs someone who can continue to teach her good canine behavior. Storm is a moderate to high energy lab who needs that special someone to help her learn what is inappropriate puppy behavior. After a long walk or letting her get her zoomies out in the backyard, she will settle down in the crate for a good while. She bonds very quickly and is very smart (sometimes too much!) and has learned the commands sit, ... (Read More)lay down, stay, leave it and come. However, she still has that boundless puppy energy and will jump/mouth new people in excitement. Once she bonds with you though and you show her your boundaries, she's very respectful and loves a good petting/brushing session. Like most labs, Storm is food motivated which makes training her much easier. She would be a great candidate for 'work' activities like agility as she loves to please. Once you get the treats out and start asking her tricks, she gets very attentive towards you. Her favorite toys are chew and rope toys. Storm is also house and crate trained. Storm does have a bite on her record - though as it was explained to me, the older couple that had adopted her were attempting to pry something out of her mouth. The couple did not receive any medical attention but Storm was still designated. Storm has not attempted to bite anyone while in foster, however, when excited she will exhibit puppy mouthing behavior which can be stopped by making her sit. Due to her size, energy level and requirement for continuing basic training, the foster recommends an experienced owner and a household with no children or cats. Storm shows positive interest in dogs, however is very pushy (much like the rest of her manners!) and until she learns to calm down more we recommend no dogs. Storm is looking for her forever home and her adoption fee is $200. (Less)

Meet Hazel! Miss Hazel is a Gorgeous girl who has been with us for a while. Hazel came to us from a high kill shelter the night before she was set to be euthanized. Hazel was in horrible condition, one of the worst we have ever seen. She was completely skin and bones and had wounds all over her body. Hazel is now healthy and a little fat;) Hazel enjoys larger dogs but is all about people. Hazel is very intelligent as she knows sit, stop, and stay. Hazel has been with us so long and would LOVE a family of her own.... Could that be yours? To give this girl a chance of a happy and safe life please apply at www.adoptapitrescue.org I am ...     Look at me, just look at me...I'm a girl without a shred of femininity about me, it's a cruel joke! I want to be delicate but I'm a tank, I want to be dainty, but I'm bulldozer, I try to be soft but all those Barrepose classes and TRX training gave me TOO MANY muscles! I have an eight-pack! All the other bitches in Barre class spurn me because my body fat is like -10%, and the cellulite? Well, there's a bit, but nothing that can't be smashed in with Spanx%BD'%BD|don't laugh, everybody wears Spanx and if they say they don't they're lying. So with all this energy, I need to go for walks or runs, so if you need to get in shape or stay ... (Read More)in shape, I'm almost like a built-in Trainer because you'll HAVE to exercise with me! I'll even let you bring other dogs along, but that's it, I won't share you with any other dogs in our house - you're my human and I'm keeping you! I'm 5 years old and try to keep myself in top shape in case American Pit Bull Terrier magazine calls me to be on this month's cover, I mean come on, I'm a beautiful, shiny, golden blonde with deep brown bedroom eyes, why, if I wasn't a dog I'd be a Fairchild...Morgan Fairchild (see, I'm funny too). I love to get belly rubs and I like kids a lot because I'm a gentle giant at heart, and if you need any more reason to meet me, I'm crate trained - doesn't get any better than that. So what you're looking at is a delightfully happy, sweet, and energetic gal looking for someone to cuddle with, work out with, and who will love me unconditionally. I may look like a linebacker on the outside, but on the inside I'm a pink gooey marshmallow. I promise I'll try not to knock you over when I meet you, it's simply that even the possibility that someone would give me a chance gives me hope - and at the end of the day, that's all I have. PIease Read Before Adopting a Boxer in Ohio
Boxer Dogs can make good pets in Ohio if they match your IifestyIe. Boxer dogs are energetic, playful and intelligent animals, they like to clown around a lot and will keep you laughing. Boxers learn new things quickly, and, at the same time, can be clever and stubborn. Boxer dogs bond well with a family, are very affectionate and get along well with children. Boxers need a lot of exercise, and will be well-behaved as long as they are taken on long walks every day. If kept confined without a lot of exercise, however, boxer dogs can become destructive. Boxers require lots of human companionship and should never be left alone for long periods of time.

lnteresting Boxer Trivia Low-Cost Ohio Spay & Neuter Clinics
The name boxer originates from the fact that boxer dogs look like they are actually boxing when they play using their front paws. Boxers were first introduced at a dog show in Munich, Germany in 1895.
