The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Health/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic (Less)

Ziva is a sweet, loving and good-natured boxer/terrier mix. Rescue Me ID: 16-06-07-00008Spike (male)

Boxer    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

7 year old purebred male Boxer for adoption to loving home in or near Cincinatti, Ohio. Spike is healthy, neutered, fully vaccinated, AKC registered and house trained. He has a fawn colored coat with white chest. Supplies included. Looking for the most loving dog on earth? Spike is pretty darned close! This adorable purebred Boxer is just 7 years old and weighs 85 pounds. Spike is very healthy, up to date on his shots, neutered and perfectly housebroken. He is a real gentleman, and loves his humans with all his heart. Spikes' owner loves him dearly. They have been sharing the bachelor life since Spike was a year old, and are very close. ... (Read More)As luck would have it, Spikes' owner met the woman of his dreams and got married. As much as his new wife loves Spike, she has discovered that she is very much allergic to him. Despite trying many things, her allergy symptoms are making life miserable for her. Spikes' owner, , is dearly hoping to find Spike a new home where he will be cherished as much as he is now. Spike loves nothing better than to be with his favorite people. He's very well behaved, and is happy doing whatever you are, whether it's going for a nice long walk or watching the game on TV. Spike loves to snuggle up and is very affectionate. One of Spikes' biggest talents is making his owner feel special. Whether he has been away for the day - or just a few minutes - Spike always greets him with gusto - tail wagging like crazy and bursting with happiness and excitement. Spikes' ideal home will be one where he has the companionship he needs and deserves. He is pretty low maintenance and is happy with a short daily walk. He loves to spend time outdoors, so a nice, securely fenced yard would be great. Spike is used to being the only pet, and has not been around children. He would likely be very good with kids older than 8, and cats that are dog-friendly. He would be best as an only dog, or with a non-dominant female dog. Spike is an AKC registered, purebred Boxer. His registration papers, and his veterinary records will be included with him for his new owners, along with all of his supplies. The sincere appreciation and friendship of his owner will accompany him as well. (And his owner would very much like to keep in touch!) Whether you live in the Cincinnatti area - or are further away - and would like to offer this beautiful boy the loving home he deserves, please feel free to get in touch by phone at (888) 720-3322, by text (281) 271-7120., by email or by filling out our request to meet a pet form below.     Need to rehome our 4 year old male boxer immediately. We moved from the country to the city and our boxer has not acclimated well. Animal ID: 19916Baca (male)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs
Health: Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Hi there. My name is Baca. I'm 5 years old and I weigh about 55 lbs. I was surrendered to the pound, along with my friend Magnus, because my owner moved and couldn't keep us any longer. I am a very sweet and loving dog. I get along well with other dogs and I love people. I am a really good boy. I like going for walks and spending time out in the play yard with my buddy Magnus. I don't really play much with toys because Magnus is kind of a toy hog. The girls here at the pound usually put Magnus and I out in the play yard together to run around and play. We do play pretty well together and we have lived together for a long time but it is not ... (Read More)necessary for us to go to the same home. I get along well with the other dogs that I have been around since I have been here at the pound as well. If you're looking for a nice dog to add to your family, please consider adopting me. I appear to be in good health. I have been given my Parvo/ Distemper vaccine and I have been dewormed with panacur dewormer. PLEASE CONSIDER THIS DOG, AS WELL AS ALL THE OTHER DOGS AT OUR SHELTER AS URGENT. OUR KENNEL SPACE HERE AT THE POUND IS VERY LIMITED. THIS DOG COULD BE EUTHANIZED WITHOUT FURTHER NOTICE ANY TIME AFTER May 21, 2016. HERE AT THE COLUMBIANA COUNTY DOG POUND, WE TRY VERY HARD TO PLACE ALL OF OUR ADOPTABLE DOGS IN TO LOVING HOMES OR SEND THEM TO GREAT, APPROVED RESCUE GROUPS, HOWEVER, WE CAN ONLY KEEP OUR DOGS HERE AT THE POUND AS LONG AS SPACE ALLOWS.     Sammy is a Boxer/Lab mix and he is about 2 years old. He is wonderful and already housetrained. He loves going walking and would be a great running and hiking companion. His owner was disabled and had to have surgery and could no longer care for him. He took Sammy to Animal Control thinking he would get adopted but he didn't and was set to be euthanized. I happened to be there to pick up another dog and they showed him to me. He was going to be killed if someone didn't take him by 5pm that day. He was so happy to be saved he was dancing back and forth on his front feet. He is very playful! His adoption fee (adoption fee, transport fee, and ...     Hello everyone! I'm Ollie and I am waiting to meet YOU! I'm about 6 years old, an easygoing mastiff mix who LOVES everyone, big and small. I'm not sure about cats, but I get along well with most dogs. I have a congenital leg defect which makes my back legs bend inwards, but I don't let that stop me AT ALL - even though I am a big boy I can move FAST when I want to. I ride great in the car and enjoy getting out and about, sniffing the grass and checking out my surroundings. But most of all I like to give kisses and get cuddles, the more the better. So, if you like big dogs with big hearts, maybe I could be the one for you. Watch me in action ... (Read More)and find out more about me from one of my favorite shelter volunteers on Youtube! (Less)

CASEY is about as cute as they come! He is a small mixed breed male who may be part Boxer/Hound/Weimaraner/Beagle/Whippet, we are just really not sure. He is 31 pounds of brindle goodness with white booties and a white chest! At 16 months of age, he still has some puppy energy left in him so he likes to play with other dogs or a human at the other end of a tug rope and loves to fetch, but he also enjoys a mellow evening on the sofa with the family. He is smart. He is house trained and crate trained. He walks well on a leash and prances around the yard like a wee pony. He likes to cover himself up with his blanket when it is nap or bed ... (Read More)time. Adorable! He is one of those dogs we honestly cannot believe is still looking for a forever home. He has been vetted, vaccinated, neutered and microchipped. He tested negative for heartworm. He has figured out how to open one of the inside doors at his foster home. This has gained him respect and popularity among his fellow fosters. He gets along great with other dogs. He also likes to visit the cats at his foster home. He may want to chase a cat if he sees one running outside but has not shown any aggression to the cats living inside at his foster home. He likes chew toys and rope toys. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Casey if it means he will have a good forever home. If you are another rescue group, we will waive the adoption fee but you can make a donation toward vetting at your discretion. The adoption fee will help our 501(c)3 non-profit rescue to cover the cost of the veterinary care he has received. (Less)

Storm 1-2 year old lab/boxer Mix Female Storm was pulled from a kennel in Columbus, OH. She had been previously adopted 3 times and returned to the kennel and was at risk of euthanasia. A wonderful foster stepped forward and is working with Storm on her puppy like behavior. Storm is a sweet girl. Storm is a spayed female black lab mix. This little lady has long legs, a slender build and at a proper weight should be around 70-75 pounds. She is moderate to high energy and would make a great jogging partner. She will also run laps around the backyard to burn off some of that excess energy. Stormie bonds very quickly and will frequently ... (Read More)paw at the crate or run back to the backyard door if she cannot see you. She responds well to reprimands and learns new things very quickly - many times I can just sternly say 'Storm' and she'll look up at you with woeful puppy eye and settle down. Currently, she knows sit, lay down and leave it and we are working on proper leash manners. Like many other labs, Storm is very food motivated which makes teaching her much easier. She is also completely house trained and although she doesn't like the crate, she does sleep in it all night without much of a fuss. Storm does have a bite on her record - though as it was explained to me, the previous adopters pried open her mouth to get at something she had. She also has barrier reactivity especially towards men. Simply put, she'll bark at strange people, typically men, while in the car or in a kennel. However, she is fine on a leash when they walk by her. She also still has puppy manners and when excited, will put her mouth on you. Immediately ignoring her does stop her but due to her size, energy level, and previous history I recommend a household with no children and an experienced owner. Storm passed both her dog and cat test in the shelter but we would recommend a meet and greet with your current pets. Storm is looking for her forever home and her adoption fee is $150. (Less)

Storm was surrendered to our rescue. Storm was purchased by her previous owners from a breeder and was never trained in basic obedience. Storm was never socialized and therefore was very afraid when she came into rescue. Due to her anxiety she has a bite history but has been rehabilitated. She's a loving dog looking for her second chance. Storm is UTD on vaccines, microchipped, spayed, heartworm negative, crate trained, house broken, and loves other dogs.     Look at me, just look at me...I'm a girl without a shred of femininity about me, it's a cruel joke! I want to be delicate but I'm a tank, I want to be dainty, but I'm bulldozer, I try to be soft but all those Barrepose classes and TRX training gave me TOO MANY muscles! I have an eight-pack! Well, there's a bit, but nothing that can't be smashed in with Spanx%BD'%BD|don't laugh, everybody wears Spanx and if they say they don't they're lying. I'll even let you bring other dogs along, but that's it, I won't share you with any other dogs in our house - you're my human and I'm keeping you! I'm 5 years old and try to keep myself in top shape in case American Pit Bull Terrier magazine calls me to be on this month's cover, I mean come on, I'm a beautiful, shiny, golden blonde with deep brown bedroom eyes, why, if I wasn't a dog I'd be a Fairchild...Morgan Fairchild (see, I'm funny too). I love to get belly rubs and I like kids a lot because I'm a gentle giant at heart, and if you need any more reason to meet me, I'm crate trained - doesn't get any better than that. I may look like a linebacker on the outside, but on the inside I'm a pink gooey marshmallow.     ZEPPELIN (AKA Harvey) is a sweet, playful 4 year old Boxer mix male who was rescued a few years ago from a pound in NW TN. He spent a while in boarding and the person caring for him had this to say. 'He gets along with other dogs and has a wonderful personality. He is very settled. If someone didn't want to go through the puppy stage, he's the pet. He has the boxer personality. He is a very smart, very nice dog.' Zepp was adopted several months ago by a woman who adores him, but sadly a move across country, a demanding job schedule and a job change that will require travel have made it necessary for Zepp to find a new home, one where ... (Read More)his humans will be home most of the time. Zepp has shown some separation anxiety and his current owner feels he would do best in a home with a retired person or couple who are able to be home with Zepp more than she is able. Zepp and his current owner took a road trip across the country so he would do well with a family who likes to travel. He does well in the car on short or long trips. He also enjoys walks or really anytime he is with his person. Zepp weighs 60 to 65 pounds. When he was first rescued, he tested heartworm positive but he successfully completed treatment for that and is now heartworm negative. He is current on vaccinations, microchipped and neutered. If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Zepp if it means he will have a good forever home. PIease Read Before Adopting a Boxer in Ohio
Boxer Dogs can make good pets in Ohio if they match your IifestyIe. Boxer dogs are energetic, playful and intelligent animals, they like to clown around a lot and will keep you laughing. Boxers learn new things quickly, and, at the same time, can be clever and stubborn. Boxer dogs bond well with a family, are very affectionate and get along well with children. Boxers need a lot of exercise, and will be well-behaved as long as they are taken on long walks every day. If kept confined without a lot of exercise, however, boxer dogs can become destructive. Boxers require lots of human companionship and should never be left alone for long periods of time.

lnteresting Boxer Trivia Low-Cost Ohio Spay & Neuter Clinics
The name boxer originates from the fact that boxer dogs look like they are actually boxing when they play using their front paws. Boxers were first introduced at a dog show in Munich, Germany in 1895. Boxer dogs are the sixth most popular breed in the United States.
