House broken, crate trained, knows basic commands, has good house manners. He's learning to walk on leash, but stays with me in park, off leash. I got to bring some spunk to my 10-yr-old GReat Dane male - but he's too much energy for the old guy. He's a fast learner, good snuggled, and really likes to play with other dogs.

CITY DOGS Cleveland is a program of Cleveland Animal Care & Control (CACC), located at 2690 W. 7th St. Cleveland, OH 44113. Public hours are Monday through Saturday from 10am-3pm, and Sunday 12-2pm. The CITY DOGS mission is to increase adoptions from the City Kennel by changing the image of the pit bulls who make up the majority of the kennel population, by preparing all adoptable dogs in the kennel for lives in loving homes and by creating as many opportunities as possible for the public to meet and get to know our dogs for the terrific pets they are meant to be. Our Adoption Process... Here's a little about how things work: All of the CITY DOGS posted for adoption are available for direct adoption from the kennel, unless noted otherwise. A handful of dogs are only available for rescue pull, which can be for a variety of reasons. You can either stop in during our open hours to meet a dog, or set up a meet and greet with your dog, which allows us to get the dog out of his/her cage for some exercise before you arrive. To set up a meet and greet, please email us at citydogs@city.cleveland.oh.us. About Our Dogs: All available dogs have gone through the ASPCA SAFER Assessment. This assessment is a snapshot of who the dog is at that given time. Our dogs are strays and we cannot make any guarantees with regard to behavior, temperament or health of any City Dog. We do not know what kind of home environment they were living in (i.e. with kids, other dogs or other cats), nor do we know if they are house trained. Everything we know about them is based on volunteer and staff observations. It is very hard to tell with certainty whether or not a dog will be good with kids, cats or another dog. If you have kids in the home or another dog, we do require that they be present for a meet and greet with the dog you are considering for adoption. Heath/Vaccinations: Dogs that are adopted directly from the kennel need to go to your personal vet within a week or so of leaving the kennel. They do have their DHPP, Rabies and Bordetella vaccinations, are dewormed once and have a microchip. In addition, unfortunately many of the dogs do get kennel cough. This is not something that is contagious to people at all, but dogs that do have it will need to be on an antibiotic. (Less)

Storm 1-2 year old lab/boxer Mix Female Storm was pulled from a kennel in Columbus, OH. She had been previously adopted 3 times and returned to the kennel and was at risk of euthanasia. A wonderful foster stepped forward and is working with Storm on her puppy like behavior. Storm is a sweet girl. Storm is a spayed female black lab mix. This little lady has long legs, a slender build and at a proper weight should be around 70-75 pounds. She is moderate to high energy and would make a great jogging partner. She will also run laps around the backyard to burn off some of that excess energy. Stormie bonds very quickly and will frequently ... (Read More)paw at the crate or run back to the backyard door if she cannot see you. She responds well to reprimands and learns new things very quickly - many times I can just sternly say 'Storm' and she'll look up at you with woeful puppy eye and settle down. Currently, she knows sit, lay down and leave it and we are working on proper leash manners. Like many other labs, Storm is very food motivated which makes teaching her much easier. She is also completely house trained and although she doesn't like the crate, she does sleep in it all night without much of a fuss. Storm does have a bite on her record - though as it was explained to me, the previous adopters pried open her mouth to get at something she had. She also has barrier reactivity especially towards men. Simply put, she'll bark at strange people, typically men, while in the car or in a kennel. However, she is fine on a leash when they walk by her. She also still has puppy manners and when excited, will put her mouth on you. Immediately ignoring her does stop her but due to her size, energy level, and previous history I recommend a household with no children and an experienced owner. Storm passed both her dog and cat test in the shelter but we would recommend a meet and greet with your current pets. Storm is looking for her forever home and her adoption fee is $150. (Less)

I will be ready to find my fur-ever home when my pup is weened (he is 5 weeks old right now) and I am spayed. If you want to add a beautiful, athletic, joyful dog to your family, look no further. (Less)

Hi, My name is Baxter. I am looking for a new home because my dad can't keep me any longer due to work travel. I started life out rough and was abused and undernourished. I was chained up and cold when I broke my collar and got away. I was captured by the morrow county warden and put in the dog pen. My dad rescued me 9 years ago and we have been great friends. I get along well with grand dogs, children and my family. I take a little longer to warm up to strangers though after a few minutes I appreciate having company. When I get to know someone I am fine but it takes a while for me to trust people. I do not like to be startled from a deep ... (Read More)sleep. I am in good health and have no hip problems. I am crate trained and love to go in there with a peanut butter Kong. I chew only raw hides and have never been destructive. My perfect situation would be with someone looking for a great companion with sharp ears and eyes to help keep watch for them. I love to walk on a leash and have good leash training. I am so much better than a puppy and I am house trained. Please consider giving me a home. (Less)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Look at me, just look at me...I'm a girl without a shred of femininity about me, it's a cruel joke! I want to be delicate but I'm a tank, I want to be dainty, but I'm bulldozer, I try to be soft but all those Barrepose classes and TRX training gave me TOO MANY muscles! I have an eight-pack! All the other bitches in Barre class spurn me because my body fat is like -10%, and the cellulite? Well, there's a bit, but nothing that can't be smashed in with Spanx%BD'%BD|don't laugh, everybody wears Spanx and if they say they don't they're lying. So with all this energy, I need to go for walks or runs, so if you need to get in shape or stay ... (Read More)in shape, I'm almost like a built-in Trainer because you'll HAVE to exercise with me! I'll even let you bring other dogs along, but that's it, I won't share you with any other dogs in our house - you're my human and I'm keeping you! I'm 5 years old and try to keep myself in top shape in case American Pit Bull Terrier magazine calls me to be on this month's cover, I mean come on, I'm a beautiful, shiny, golden blonde with deep brown bedroom eyes, why, if I wasn't a dog I'd be a Fairchild...Morgan Fairchild (see, I'm funny too). I love to get belly rubs and I like kids a lot because I'm a gentle giant at heart, and if you need any more reason to meet me, I'm crate trained - doesn't get any better than that. So what you're looking at is a delightfully happy, sweet, and energetic gal looking for someone to cuddle with, work out with, and who will love me unconditionally. I may look like a linebacker on the outside, but on the inside I'm a pink gooey marshmallow. I promise I'll try not to knock you over when I meet you, it's simply that even the possibility that someone would give me a chance gives me hope - and at the end of the day, that's all I have. Personality: High Energy
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

STELLA is a beautiful 2 year old Blue Tick Coonhound mix. Stella was rescued in NW TN from a man who had her in a store parking lot trying to give her and her two sisters away. The temps that day were in the high 90's and she was sitting in the back of a truck in the direct sunlight ALL day. Talk about a Hot Tin Roof! Her sisters have since been adopted and now it is Stella's turn to find her forever home. Stella has a high energy level and loves to run and play. She does well with other dogs her size or larger but does not need to be around smaller or timid dogs. She walks well on leash but needs work on house training. She does well ... If you live in another state, don't let that stand in your way. We will work to transport Stella if it means she will have a good forever home. PIease Read Before Adopting a Boxer in Ohio
Boxer Dogs can make good pets in Ohio if they match your IifestyIe. Boxer dogs are energetic, playful and intelligent animals, they like to clown around a lot and will keep you laughing. Boxers learn new things quickly, and, at the same time, can be clever and stubborn. Boxer dogs bond well with a family, are very affectionate and get along well with children. Boxers need a lot of exercise, and will be well-behaved as long as they are taken on long walks every day. If kept confined without a lot of exercise, however, boxer dogs can become destructive. Boxers require lots of human companionship and should never be left alone for long periods of time.

lnteresting Boxer Trivia Low-Cost Ohio Spay & Neuter Clinics
The name boxer originates from the fact that boxer dogs look like they are actually boxing when they play using their front paws. Boxers were first introduced at a dog show in Munich, Germany in 1895. Boxer dogs are the sixth most popular breed in the United States. Approximately 1 in 5 boxers are born white, and almost 20% of white boxers are deaf.
