Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Good w/ Most Cats, Good w/ Adults (Not Kids)
Personality: Average Energy, Very Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Our newest rescue was not really planned- she kind of just happened... We found out that 1 1/2 year old Minnie was going to be euthanized because she had been returned by her owner of a year to an already full shelter for behavioral concerns. When we saw Minnie in her cage, she was trembling and almost frozen in one spot. She had been returned the week before and unlike most dogs who relax after a few days, Minnie was as scared and frightened as the first day she came in. Her quality of life was miserable and she didn't even want to go outside. The shelter told us what the prevous owner had said about her & we were sure we could help her ... (Read More)find a new home. Fast forward to Minnie now. She's in a foster home & while she is still shy, we see what a sweet girl she is. She LOVES other dogs & her fosters brothers have been giving her confidence. She is still very shy & still spends a lot of time in her crate & under the desk while her foster parents are on the computer. She wants to be social but is still getting used to her new home. She will do anything she can to remove herself from a situation she finds scary. We need an adopter or another foster ASAP. She needs to be in a home with a confident dog to help her overcome her fear of new things. She is also good with cats.. Since we are still learning about her, fosters must be in the NYC/ LI area or CT. Due to shyness and what her previous owners said, she needs to be in a quiet, adult home. Please contact us (GetABullRescue@gmail.com; 516-714-4403) if you can help. (Less)

I am turning to Rescue Me after being told by many local rescues that they are full. I need a rescue for a dog who is fully vetted and needs a second chance. Donations and transport are available for him if pulled by a rescue (only asking a fee from a member of the public to be sure they are legitimate).     Introducing our newest rescue King! King comes to us from a local shelter where he spent a few months after being surrendered when his family was moving and said they couldn't bring him. Sadly for 5 year old King he has been bounced around his whole life, in 2 different homes before landing in a shelter. The shelter was really stressful for him, he got sick and he was extremely overwhelmed but he loved spending time with volunteers snuggling in the grass. He is now in a foster home and we are happy to report that King is good with both dogs and cats, is house-trained and crate-trained. He is a big boy, almost 80 lbs, although this ... He lived previously with children however we recommend for kids 12+ due to his size and that he's a little bossy! King is looking for his next and final stop!!! He deserves it.     Jazzy is a 5 year old snuggle bunny. She came to us as a boxer/shepherd mix but may have some pit in her. She's short and stocky at 55 lbs. She loves people young and old, is housebroken, is up to date on all shots, is spayed and heart worm negative. She's never met a cat but goes crazy when she sees one outside so most likely no cats and gets along with most dogs. She knows basic commands like sit, stay and come and walks on a leash (might pull a little at first but settles in pretty quickly). She has no food aggression or toy aggression.     I personally rescued Lucky from a not so nice situation. Because of his amazing personality, it took little time to find him a good home. A few days before he was to leave me he became violently ill. Vet diagnosis was spinal meningitis. He was hospitalized for three days. Was discharged to fully recover with me. In the meantime, his 'good' family backed out. Perhaps they were unsure if his future health. He has made a complete recovery. I had him neutered and he is up to date on vaccinations. He loves people and has become my Velcro dog. He adores my two young grand kids. I am a senior citizen and he is a year old puppy. He needs to be ... (Read More)taught proper leash manners. And could use basic manners. For me, he is too strong for me to properly train him. I have trouble walking so I am fearful of both of us being injured. Lucky is one of the most loving dogs I have had the pleasure to care for. It's not fair for him to be living the life of an old lady. He needs an active family who can properly exercise him. He loves rides in the car and laying out in the sun. He does come in every 30 min or so to make sure his person is still here. I cannot, in all honesty, say how he was treated. I know that when I went down to the basement he was just a frightened pup. He cowered with his face literally on the ground. He wouldn't come up the steps. I had to carry him to the car. Thank God, that pup no longer exists!! I am beginning to see definite signs of his boredom. He has started to 'mouth' my hands while playing. He does listen when told 'no'. Being left alone in the house has been fine. He has finally realized that the cat really doesn't want to play. He is playful with other dogs. Last night he managed to get out of the yard ( my fault). My neighbors saw him, called him, and he went running to them. He had never met them before. I love this boy with all my heart and I will go to any extremes to ensure he goes to the perfect home. Applications are necessary, home visits are mandatory, vet references and personal references are a must. A contract will be signed stating that should you become unable to care for him, he comes back to me. (Less)

Leo is an active, 1 %BD%BD%BD%BD year old Pitbull mix who was found wandering around the Saw Mill Parkway by a Good Samaritan. Leo first arrived at our shelter severely emaciated, weighing in at only 45 pounds. Thanks to the high quality food of Grain Free Blue Buffalo, Leo is at a healthy weight of 65 pounds! Leo enjoys going on car rides, going swimming and going for walks. He is one of the most obedient dogs here at our shelter. Leo is not only knows his basic commands (sit, down, stay, leave it, out) but he is also working on his advanced obedience (climb, place, heel). He has shown a tendency to guard certain items and has been in a ... (Read More)training program to help manage this. Leo gets along with some other dogs but would most likely benefit from being the only dog in the household. Leo has a lot of love to give to a family so please consider adopting him today! For more information on this handsome dog, please call (914)-273-1674 or go online to www.adopt-a-dog.org If you would like to fill out our adoption application, please go to https://goo.gl/oUcqxk (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Boxer in New York
Boxer Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. Boxer dogs are energetic, playful and intelligent animals, they like to clown around a lot and will keep you laughing. Boxers learn new things quickly, and, at the same time, can be clever and stubborn. Boxer dogs bond well with a family, are very affectionate and get along well with children. Boxers need a lot of exercise, and will be well-behaved as long as they are taken on long walks every day. If kept confined without a lot of exercise, however, boxer dogs can become destructive. Boxers require lots of human companionship and should never be left alone for long periods of time.

lnteresting Boxer Trivia Low-Cost New York Spay & Neuter Clinics
The name boxer originates from the fact that boxer dogs look like they are actually boxing when they play using their front paws. The boxer was originally bred from the English Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser. Boxers were first introduced at a dog show in Munich, Germany in 1895. Boxer dogs are the sixth most popular breed in the United States. Approximately 1 in 5 boxers are born white, and almost 20% of white boxers are deaf.
