Frazier is in DESPERATE need of a new home (needs a new home by 3/30/15 or he will be back in the shelter or euthanized). His owner has died and has no family who can keep him. He came from the Islip Animal Shelter 2 1/2 years ago & stayed by his faithful owner's side every day. Rescue Me ID: 15-03-03-00253ALI (male)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Puppy

Health: Needs to be Neutered, Vaccinations Current

Meet our gorgeous boxer/lab pup Ali,and his siblings Dempsey, Sugar Ray, Foreman and Laila. These babies are positively stunning and sweeter pups you could not find. They are affectionate and people-oriented pups and love getting hugs and kisses. They also love running and playing, but readily give that up for attention from their people. All of these pups are love-bugs. As for Ali, he loves to put his arms up to you and give you a real hug; this boy is a lover! These babies are a tribute to their boxer/lab heritage, combining the best of both breeds: from their beautiful markings, to their loving temperaments, to their happy 'wiggle ... (Read More)butt' greeting, they are wonderful. They came from a family situation, and it shows. Their birth-family took good care of them and socialized them well, but had hard times & could not keep them. So, we stepped in to help and are seeking fantastic homes for each of them. To adopt, please register on www.safeatlast.net (by clicking Register on the lefthand side of the homepage). When you receive your password (which will be sent to your email account), log back on to our website with your username and password to access the online adoption application (under Forms/Applications on the lefthand side of our homepage). Once we have your completed application, a volunteer will be in touch by email to set up a phone interview to commence the review process. Our process is very straightforward but does involve a phone interview, reference checks and a home assessment. An adoption fee of $375, and a refundable $35 spay/neuter deposit (required by NYS law), also apply. These pups are being fostered in a private home. SO, PLEASE UNDERSTAND THAT YOU CANNOT MEET THEM UNTIL YOU HAVE COMPLETED THE ADOPTION APPLICATION AND BEEN APPROVED TO ADOPT. If AFTER YOU HAVE SUBMITTED YOUR COMPLETE APPLICATION, you have any questions, please email us at info@safeatlast.net. Thank you for your interest in these gorgeous babies. (Less)

Boxer Mix    Age: Young Adult

Compatibility: Not Good w/ Other Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Submissive
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current

Zoey is everything a dog is supposed to be. She is intelligent, fun loving and affectionate. She is equally happy to play fetch as she is to sit at your feet with a bone while you watch TV. Zoey's wonderful personality is a true testament to how well loved she was in her previous home. She was found wandering the city streets at 6 months old with an imbedded collar and a clearly sad history. After being bounced around to a few homes, she finally landed in one that truly loved her. This owner taught her tricks, socialized her with people, children and some other dogs, and he also told her how much he loved her every day. Of all of the owner ... (Read More)surrenders we have seen at Adopt-A-Dog, this one was truly heartbreaking. Her owner was relocated for work, way too far away to bring his best friend Zoey with him, and he was faced with the decision to rehome her. Almost a year later, we are dumbfounded as to why this incredible dog is still with us waiting for a home! She is a volunteer favorite, a staff favorite, and immediately best friends with every person she meets! She is the dog we bring out to meet large groups of volunteers and even children. All she needs is a loving home that will appreciate her for who she is and commit to her for a lifetime. Zoey would do best as an only pet, although she may be able to live with another dog if they are introduced properly. She would do well with older children and up in an active and fun-loving home.     She is a HUGE responsibility. She is a high energy dog and needs to exercise every day so she won't get bored and get into bad habits. If she's home alone for too long she will chew up the furniture, I guarantee it. She can only eat wet foods, preferably on elevated surfaces.. look up the term 'megaesophagus' if you want to learn all about the condition. It's very manageable. Most importantly, and I cannot stress this enough- you CANNOT have another dog if you take her in. Absolutely not. Even if it's a big dog. Always remember that the American bulldog terrier aka pitbull was specifically bred to be loyal to humans, but dog-aggressive. ... (Read More)Innocent Playing can (and has) turned into fighting. I made the mistake of not doing my research and trusting her with my chihuahua, and it could've been fatal had I not had someone with me to separate them. She must always be on a leash, and cannot run around in dog parks without one. She cannot be trained to not fight with other dogs. It is a gene that can be managed but not removed. You might also want to consider purchasing a break stick, which is something I think all pitbull owners should have, in case of the event of an attack. Otherwise, she is such a loyal and loving companion to my spouse and I, and once she grows to trust you, she will be the same with you. She loves toys, she loves cuddles, and like any other dog she loves attention. Also, she does pull A LOT on walks, but that can change with assertiveness and patience (treats help too!) (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Boxer in New York
Boxer Dogs can make good pets in New York if they match your IifestyIe. Boxer dogs are energetic, playful and intelligent animals, they like to clown around a lot and will keep you laughing. Boxers learn new things quickly, and, at the same time, can be clever and stubborn. Boxer dogs bond well with a family, are very affectionate and get along well with children. Boxers need a lot of exercise, and will be well-behaved as long as they are taken on long walks every day. If kept confined without a lot of exercise, however, boxer dogs can become destructive. Boxers require lots of human companionship and should never be left alone for long periods of time.

Boxer
lnteresting Boxer Trivia Low-Cost New York Spay & Neuter Clinics
The name boxer originates from the fact that boxer dogs look like they are actually boxing when they play using their front paws. The boxer was originally bred from the English Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser. Boxers were first introduced at a dog show in Munich, Germany in 1895. Boxer dogs are the sixth most popular breed in the United States. Approximately 1 in 5 boxers are born white, and almost 20% of white boxers are deaf.
