Rescue Me ID: 16-12-26-00403Pheobe (female)

Boxer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Not Good with Cats
Personality: High Energy, Very Dominant
Health: Spayed, Vaccinations Current, Abused/Neglected,
 Aggressive, Fearful/Anxious

This is Pheobe. She was raised by my parents from 7 weeks of age. Born on Easter Sunday of 2009 in Centralia, MO. We were staying at my grandparents house after my grandma passed, so she had a yard. My stepdad insisted on having a 'guard dog' in the quiet suburbs of saint peters. So he started encouraging her puppy aggression there. Teaching 'watch em' and 'sic' with toys. That transitioned to people when we moved into an extended stay to wait for out house to be built and she started showing outward aggression toward other living things by barking, grownling, stomping her front feet and snorting, etc. At this point we had her, her sister, ... (Read More)and my 6 year old cocker spaniel. We spent close to 6 months in the hotel. When we moved into the new house all was well. The dogs got along. She still wasn't having it with people though. My stepdad would cage her when anyone was over, so she didn't socialize. Her sister went back to my stepdads brother shortly after, and not too long after that she attacked my cocker spaniel. She did the famous pitbull deathshake and ripped over a quarter size hole through his throat. We gave her back to stepdads brother. She was gone for about three months. After that initial attack, she was about a year old or a little over, we couldn't let her around any other animals or she would try to kill them. She had puppies during her first or second heat I believe. We gave my other dog up, so there wouldn't be a blood bath with 8 puppies in the house. We moved twice after that. Always the same story. She got ahold of cats. We couldn't walk her or take her out if there was another dog outside. She went from 'watch em' and 'release' to seeing an animal, attacking, and not responding to any command words when she had what I call 'tunnel vision'. She's so focused on the other animal, you literally could scream, spank, pick her up even, and there is no redirection. She stays like this for up to an hour after she sees another animal. She will literally whine to go outside just to get to that dog or that cat. She's very dominant in the house even now. Barks at you and tries to bully to get what she wants, whether it be your food, outside, her food, water, a toy. Since the first attack, she has bitten two people, and attacked at least 3 other dogs that I know of. I couldn't even count the cats she's attacked. My stepdad encouraged the third dog attack because the other dog would taunt and then run. So, he intentionally let her get ahold of him to 'teach him to stay out of her territory.' When my parents split last year, she was with my mom first. My mom would leave at home by herself for up to like 3 days. No food, no water, not being taken out to potty. I took her from my mom and drove her to my stepdads. He was in environments with other animals all the time, so he couldn't handle that 'animal aggressive guard dog' that he wanted. He started using unreal forms of physical punishment. So, at this point, we've lost all control of this dog, and she's being abused. He came up to visit on Christmas of last year, put her in my puppys' cage and left in the middle of the night. She got picked up in may or June because she attacked another dog when we tried to give her to another owner. He only had her for a month. She's been with me since. She gets shifty around my four month old, and won't even let my dogs around her cage. She will try to attack my dogs still and I've been trying to socialize them for a year now. With and without a muzzle. It's still the same thing. I spayed her, and it didn't help anything at all. I'm at a loss with her. I'm afraid for the safety of my baby, my livelihood, and my other dogs. She's the most unique and genuine dog I have ever owned, and she deserves to live. I don't want to euthanize her, but I'm running out of options. Please help this girl. She will be very challenging, but she is so beyond worth it. The rehoming fee is to run a background check on whomever decided they want to give this girl a loving, caring, forever home. (Less)

Animal ID: 16-09-04-00158King (male)

Boxer Mix    Age: Adult

Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered

King is a wonderful animal. He is up to date on shots and Neutered. He's great with grade-school children, teenagers, cats, people and some dogs. He lives with an American bulldog, kids, 2 cats at my daughters house. The condo board put a rule in place no dogs over 30 pounds. King weights 68 pounds so I was told he had to leave and it broke my heart. King knows all common commands. He talks to you too. He used to run with me at a track and takes walk in the park. I need someone who is calm, wonderful with animals and loves dogs. He's terrible on a leash, needs a choke chain or harness. He pulls when sees other dogs and barks or circles. he ... (Read More)does know what heel means. Sometimes he's gentle with dogs and sometimes not depending on breed. He needs to slowly meet them. You may have to pull back. He does like to be dominate. I rescued King in 2012 and he was abused, left in cages for hours by kennels. He needs a warm loving environment, a place where he can run, preferably no cage, he is potty trained if you take him out in morning and night (8-10 hours), he cannot be left unattended outside or he will run away. He needs a fenced back yard where he can run with no way to escape. Mostly a loving safe home. He loves to cuddle, he will gently take treats out of your hand, likes a comfy place to sleep. King is full of personality and can be a goofball. He plays with kickball or soccer ball. Loves toys and they last about an hour if not durable. Please help. I start treatment soon for illness and need someone to foster or adopt King ASAP. Thank you, Debby 314-303-1518 Common Commands he knows, Sit, Down, Speak, Stay, High Five, Bang Bang plays dead, get down, come King... More (Less)

Boxer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Good with Most Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults
Personality: Average Energy, Average Temperament
Health: Neutered, Abused/Neglected, Fearful/Anxious

Kylo is a loving, friendly boy. He weighs about 85 pounds. He is beautiful, this picture doesn't do him justice. He would love to be a lap dog. He is also very cuddly to sleep with. We have been fostering him for about 6 months, but because of our situation, we can't for much longer. He is kennel trained, but because of his first parent leaving him in a heavy plastic kennel for hours at a time, he really would rather be in an enclosure he can see out of that will leave him room to move for small amounts of time, or not be kenneled. He is good with people, but can be kind of a klutz. He doesn't really understand cats; he met our cat for ... (Read More)the first time 6 months ago. He loves to play with other dogs and his person or people, or can just be mellow with his family. Readily shares water bowl, will share his food with his 'sister'. I have had no problems with aggression with food bowl or treats. He takes food very gently from our hand; I've never even been nipped. Ky would be a very good dog for someone with a large space for him and a high fence, since he can be a bit of an escape artist. He's very intelligent, very loyal and loving. If I had the option, I would keep him. (Less)

PIease Read Before Adopting a Boxer in Missouri
Boxer Dogs can make good pets in Missouri if they match your IifestyIe. Boxer dogs are energetic, playful and intelligent animals, they like to clown around a lot and will keep you laughing. Boxers learn new things quickly, and, at the same time, can be clever and stubborn. Boxer dogs bond well with a family, are very affectionate and get along well with children. Boxers need a lot of exercise, and will be well-behaved as long as they are taken on long walks every day. If kept confined without a lot of exercise, however, boxer dogs can become destructive. Boxers require lots of human companionship and should never be left alone for long periods of time.

Boxer
lnteresting Boxer Trivia Low-Cost Missouri Spay & Neuter Clinics
The name boxer originates from the fact that boxer dogs look like they are actually boxing when they play using their front paws. Boxers were first introduced at a dog show in Munich, Germany in 1895. Approximately 1 in 5 boxers are born white, and almost 20% of white boxers are deaf.
