Grace - Arriving Soon - Taking Applications 'There but for the Grace of God...' This is Baby Grace... She is a 6 month old boxer mix puppy, recently saved from a tortured life and an impending, and most certain, tragic death. At a tender young age, when most puppies are pouncing and playing and going for walks, Baby Grace was dumped in an area of South Florida known to local dog rescuers as The Redlands... Here, hundreds of dogs get dumped everyday, abandoned by their owners, left without food, water, or any kind of shelter from Florida's brutal temperatures. These innocent and helpless animals don't have a chance at survival... Most die ... (Read More)from starvation, and the rest either succumb to the heat or get run over by motorists who run them down for fun. Death seems to be a welcome blessing, saving them from this horrible life they never wanted or deserved. Baby Grace was spotted by several people because she was just a tiny baby...terrified for her, they fed her scraps and tried desperately to keep her alive, praying she would make it until help came... If it ever came. And then one day, help did come for her and Baby Grace was finally rescued! She has been to the vet and has received a clean bill of health, and is now with a loving foster mom who was instrumental in her rescue and fought hard to save her life. She is also available for our Foster to Adopt program. This program allows you to be the family that greets her when she arrives in Illinois. Foster to Adopt families have the first option to adopt if you determine this is the pup right for you! While you foster, we pay all expenses from vetting, to food and we provide a crate, leash, collars, and toys. Your family provides love (something she desperately needs!) and a safe place to lay her head until she finds her forever home. We also require that you have the ability to take her to routine veterinary visits at our participating vets. These vets are located in Wheaton, Naperville, and Elmhurst. Spay/Neuters are done in North Aurora. Fostering is the most life giving thing you can do for a dog or puppy! It is a very rewarding experience that will make a huge impact on their life. By becoming a foster you are saving 2 lives - the animal you bring into your home while he or she waits to be adopted, and the animal who gets to take your foster's place in the shelter. Please email safehavendogs@yahoo.com for a foster application or additional details. Please note that the breeds and sizes posted in this biography are educated best guesses and are not guaranteed.     Cisco is 2 years old, lives with 2 other male dogs, one is much larger (pure breed chocolate lab) who of which is aggressive and have caused fights. the other is a chihuahua that cisco pays no mind too and is playful towards, i also have a cat but it took cisco a very long time to stop chasing, he is very defensive towards human males but i promise he will warm up he just needs some time, the reason why i need him to be adopted is because i am moving to Texas very soon and i cannot bring him to the apartment i will be living in. cisco loves to cuddle, he will play fetch but he hasnt caught on fully to the fact that he has to bring the ball ... (Read More)back to you in order to continue playing, he is house trained. i also have a large plastic dog kennel he can be kept in, i have not had him in it for the past 6 months due to him showing that he is trustworthy enough not to chew things but he will if he is frustrated, i would advise taking the kennel for no extra charge. if you have any questions or concerns please contact me. i have not taken him to a shelter but i am sure if i do take him there he will be put down for his lack of skills to behave around large males. Boxer Mix    Age: Adult

Compatibility: Not Good with Other Dogs, Good with Kids and Adults

This beautiful dog is 5 years old and is a total sweetheart. She is very affectionate! She bonds closely to her humans, and she unfortunately has been adopted and returned twice due to her separation anxiety. Madigan would therefore do best in a home where she doesn't have to be alone often! Though she may do ok with other dogs, she does at least show barrier frustration and it is recommended she be the only dog in the home. Please meet this sweet girl and give her the forever home she deserves- finally.

Boss is an amazingly affectionate 6 year old dog who has been passed around shelters for well over a year. His favorite thing to do is lick your face!! Boss unfortunately gets passed by at the shelter time and time again, maybe because of his size and/or pit label? He may do best in a home without small kids or other dogs only because of his size and some toy guarding issues. However, the guarding issues can definitely be overcome with time and patience! He is doing fantastic in training and already knows sit, down, paw (both), and heel. He really is just a big goofy lovebug. Please give this guy the chance at life he deserves- I ... Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

Personality: High Energy, Average Temperament

Jimbo is such a sweet dog that has been passed around shelters for far too long. He has a lot of energy and is very intelligent, so he definitely doesn't do well living in a cage. Jimbo absolutely loves playing with toys! Because of his high energy level, Jimbo would likely do best in a home without young children. He is strong but would respond very well to training, and he already knows a few basic commands. He is very wiggly and affectionate : ) Jimbo just needs a family to call his own to play with and exercise him!

Boxer Mix    Age: Puppy

Compatibility: Good w/ Most Dogs, Not Good w/ Cats, Good w/ Kids and Adults

We have loved Wrigley for over a year, since he was 10 weeks old. Animal control found him on the streets and rescued him at 8 weeks, and we got him shortly after. He is currently 15 months old. Sadly, we have to find a new home for him as quickly as possible, and don't want to have to surrender him to the humane society. He is up-to-date on everything, trained for basic commands, loves to play fetch, go for runs/walks, and cuddle with us and our kids. He will need to continue being trained, but he responds quickly and well to positive reinforcement and training. We love him and hope to find a good home for him!

Samantha About 5 Months Old Boxer / Lab Mix Samantha is an active puppy that loves to play. She loves long walks and gets along great with other dogs. She is said to be a social butterfly and loves meeting new people! Illinois law requires that all of our dogs and puppies be spay/neutered within 30 days of adoption. In order to fully comply with this regulation and reduce the number of homeless dogs and puppies, we do not permit out of state adoptions of unaltered dogs or puppies. PIease Read Before Adopting a Boxer in Illinois
Boxer Dogs can make good pets in Illinois if they match your IifestyIe. Boxer dogs are energetic, playful and intelligent animals, they like to clown around a lot and will keep you laughing. Boxers learn new things quickly, and, at the same time, can be clever and stubborn. Boxer dogs bond well with a family, are very affectionate and get along well with children. Boxers need a lot of exercise, and will be well-behaved as long as they are taken on long walks every day. If kept confined without a lot of exercise, however, boxer dogs can become destructive. Boxers require lots of human companionship and should never be left alone for long periods of time.

Boxer
lnteresting Boxer Trivia Low-Cost Illinois Spay & Neuter Clinics
The name boxer originates from the fact that boxer dogs look like they are actually boxing when they play using their front paws. The boxer was originally bred from the English Bulldog and the now extinct Bullenbeisser. Boxer dogs are the sixth most popular breed in the United States.
